What can be cooked in an air fryer? What are the most effective recipes and how much to work compared to an oven

As marginal energy prices continue to rise at an alarming rate, households are finding new ways to cut costs as much as possible.
Every point counts as millions face the prospect of running out of fuel and the price of an electric oven rose from an average of 28p per kilowatt hour to 52p in October.
With that in mind, people are starting to wonder how their everyday home appliances impact their spending, and new savings trends like air fryers are getting billions of views on social media apps like TikTok.
A study by supplier Utilita and supermarket Iceland found that deep fryers are significantly cheaper than electric ovens.
According to the study, a rice cooker costs an average of 87p a day, while an air fryer costs just 14p a day.
Home chef Lisa Malion decided to buy an air fryer to keep costs down, and like many TikTok fryer converts, she says she will never return.
“I’m thinking about not using my oven anymore, except maybe for Christmas. It’s like a message from God.”
Air fryers may seem very professional, but they are very similar to ovens in that they can cook everything from chicken to brownies. The only difference is that the fryer is powered by a powerful fan that circulates hot air from a heating element at the top of the unit.
They cook quickly and evenly, and their crunchy foods require less oil than their traditional counterparts, meaning they cook up low-fat alternatives to decadent fried foods (like chips, bacon, and donuts) that are especially healthy.
Zoe McClean, senior household economist at Breville, told Homes and Gardens that homemade burgers cook especially well in the deep fryer, as do grilled chicken and baked potatoes.
That being said, as a stream of TikTok recipe videos shows, you can cook just about anything in an air fryer.
The device has become so popular that there are now thousands of online recipes specifically designed to get the most out of the air fryer.
