I started looking for affordable, attractive, and productive rice cookers for several reasons: food is more expensive than ever (grains are still durable and mostly cheap); I’m a busy mom (and a lazy cook); when it’s hot, turning on the oven or standing on the stove feels like extra punishment.
I also didn’t have much counter space, so something as big as the Instant Pot was immediately discontinued. When I scrolled down to the 4-cup GreenLife Healthy Nonstick option, I immediately added it to my cart. Not only does it cook everything from oats to rice, but it also comes in four lovely, countertop-friendly colors: pink, yellow, aqua, and white.
The first time I used it, I immediately realized that it was more efficient than cooking on the stovetop. I no longer need to stir on the stove or keep an eye on the doneness of the quinoa – brilliant. My favorites quickly became rice and oats, which came out perfectly every time. It all became a dream, knowing that all I had to do was rinse the rice, then add water and grains to the ceramic-coated pot and press a button. For the next 40 minutes, I’ll be cooking the rest of the meal, and by the time the stove beeps, I’ll have perfectly fluffy grains to feed my family. Plus, the whole thing is easy to clean, and the sink is dishwasher safe.
The only problem? As it is rated for 4 cups, the pieces are perfect for me and my kids, but if I have a big party, a larger model would be better. Then there was a time when my oatmeal was too chewy, but after 10 minutes on heat, it softened. But at $50, the benefits outweigh any drawbacks, and it’s a real space saver and eye-catching piece of countertop.
