The following is an example of making low-sugar rice.
First, you need to choose the type of rice you want to eat. While there are many different types of rice, there are 3 main sizes of rice grains, and the type you choose can greatly affect the proportion of water you need to use:
Long Grain: Four times longer than the width and lighter in texture (example: jasmine rice)
Medium grains: twice as long as they are wide, for a more tender and chewy bite (example: Arborio or risotto)
Short grain: almost as wide as the long grain, and has a fuller and thicker consistency
Rinse gently, swirl, and drain the rice 1 to 2 times under cold water to remove excess starch that has built up from crumbs or other debris. You want to keep some of the starch, so it’s a little sticky, which is good for picking up the rice with chopsticks.
You can directly wash the rice in the rice cooker and then move the rice grains by hand. Pour the cloudy water out of the pot, repeating once or twice as necessary – you don’t want or need the water to be completely clear.
Add proper water to rice ratio
Measuring cup method (preferred!)
You should use a measuring cup if you are concerned about consistency, accuracy, or being able to adjust the proportions of other types of rice.
For any type of grain size (short, medium or long), you can follow a 1:1 water to rice ratio. If you want to add more rice, you can adjust the recipe in a similar way, 2 cups rice to 2 cups water. This should yield fluffy but slightly sticky rice grains when cooked, and will cook up to 3 cups in our rice cooker.
Turn on the machine, select the low-sugar rice button, and then press the OK button. The default time for the rice cooker to make low-sugar rice is 40 minutes. You only need to wait for 40 minutes to enjoy delicious and healthy low-sugar rice.
