LAS VEGAS. Despite his dominance in Dana White’s Contender Series 56, Jake Jenkins was very pleased with his performance.
Jenkins (10-2) is bloodied and defeated Freddy Emiliano Linares via TKO in the third round at the UFC Apex on Tuesday, earning him a trade to the UFC. The Australian rookie said he would like to show more of his amazing performances, but a busy week of fighting has put pressure on him.
“A huge week of emotions,” Jenkins told reporters, including MMA Junkie, on Tuesday. “I just grabbed Dana by the back for a few minutes and just talked about the show and was like, ‘Dude, the pressure cooker this week was amazing. I had problems getting my visa so we missed our flight. .. I arrived at 10:30 am and was picked up here at 6:30 am for the media, which was a bit of a whirlwind.
“But I think the competition was probably made for that, trying to knock out people who couldn’t handle that much pressure. Maybe the performance there affected me a bit, I didn’t let go of my arm.” or my taekwondo mastery show, but I’ve done enough work to get the job done.”
Although Jenkins’ trainer was pleased with his performance, he was unsure if he would get a contract with the UFC.
“I’m just a little overwhelmed,” Jenkins added. “All is ready. I think I beat him 10-9 in the second quarter, 10-8 and then it was over in the third quarter. So in any other situation, on paper, you would say, “Wow, what a great performance. But with the pressure of Apex for Contenders, you’re like, “Fuck, is that enough?” ”
“So now, looking back, I’m a little disappointed that all my coaches were telling me, ‘Dude, stick your head in. You’ve done a great job.” So, yes, the contract is in, and now the real work begins. this is a killer, it’s time to pull your finger out and get going.”
