There are many different brands and types of deep fryers on the market today, but most of them have similar benefits.
Heather Wynn, a lecturer in household science and consumption at the Oklahoma State Development Administration, said she has a deep fryer and has done an educational demonstration of the device.
She said the deep fryer works by circulating hot air around the food, not frying it. Some of the benefits of air fryers are that they are quick, easy to use, allow for more recipe options, and can be a healthier option.
Healthier options can be obtained through new recipes adapted to the appliance, the elimination of cooking in oil and the efficiency of reheating food. When a person fries food, 40 percent of the final mass of food can be oil, she says, but that percentage decreases when using a deep fryer.
“Even if [you] have French fries, you can still enjoy French fries knowing that no extra oil was used in their preparation,” Wynn says.
Chefs are less likely to have to deal with a hot kitchen when using a deep fryer than when using an oven, she says.
Because the device is faster than other kitchen equipment, Winn said some adjustments to the recipe are needed to keep food from burning or drying out. Winn says she uses olive oil in some of her dishes to keep the food from drying out and often bakes recipes at lower temperatures.
“I know that when I cook tilapia in the deep fryer, it happens so quickly that I have to lower the temperature by about 25-50 degrees, because it cooks very quickly and tastes like a crisp. Eat something,” Winn said.
When shopping for an air fryer, people should research the different types and brands, and see if they already have equipment that does the same thing as a deep fryer, Winn says. Some appliances can not only fry food, but also dehydrate, bake, roast, and roast.
When deciding whether to buy an air fryer and what to choose, people can ask themselves several questions, including what appliance they use most often to cook food, what kind of food they usually cook, how much storage space they have, and whether the appliance is suitable for cooking. food. actually saves them time.
Winn says her top tip is to do research based on what’s best for individual chefs, not different brands and models.
