The holidays are almost here. Soon there will be greeting cards in the mail, there will be stockings, and there will be cookies in the oven.
To speed up holiday baking, copies of the 2022 We Energies Cookie Book will be available at the Racine-Kenosha border on November 1st and online. The books are provided to WE Energies customers free of charge.
“In early 2022, we asked our customers to submit recipes to consider in this year’s book, as well as stories about their hometown and what makes them so special. We’ve received over 300 customer submissions. In this year’s book, we’ve narrowed it down. up to 38 recipes,” said Amy Jahns of WE Energies Media Relations.
Southeast Wisconsin has been successful and is in the spotlight this year. This cookie book features three recipes from Racine County and two from Kenosha County.
In this edition you will find “Grandma’s Scottish Shortbread” presented by Jennifer Schwartz. Local resident Racina presented the holiday cookies on behalf of her mother, who pays her respects. This is the first year the family has submitted and been selected for the book. It was a surprise waiting to be presented to her mother.
“Because this recipe has been in my family for at least 4 generations, it’s special to me. It’s been a mainstay of every Christmas party, but it’s also a hit at other family events like weddings,” Schwartz says.
The Schwartz cookie recipe goes back to her great-grandmother who immigrated from Scotland. She later settled in the Racine area. She brings her tried-and-true shortbread recipe with her.
The recipe is passed down from generation to generation. At age 95, Schwartz’s mother continues to bake favorite treats for the holidays and make cookies using cookie books from the past few years. She even shares the recipe with her children and grandchildren.

“My mother’s Scottish heritage was very important to her and this recipe, being Scottish, is part of that. I hope that in the coming years the family will continue this tradition and remember her,” said Jennifer.
Not only do family members enjoy this treat year after year, families across the state can indulge in the sweetness of shortbread cookies.
“It’s really a tradition and it’s not… a story unique to Jennifer and her mom. We heard about it from our clients and it has become a tradition in their family,” says Jahns.
This year, Cookie Book continues a tradition that began 94 years ago. The cookie book first appeared in 1928 as a way to promote electrical appliances.
“WE Energies has a showroom in our downtown Milwaukee office where we will be demonstrating appliances such as ovens, and we will be hiring economists from these companies to bake cookies in these new electric ovens and deliver them to the public. the biscuit book has just been born,” a WE Energies spokesperson said.
Now Wisconsinians are distributing and using these cookie books in kitchens across the state, bringing families together.
In 2021, We Energies distributed its cookie book to over 215,000 customers. Now, Wisconsinians have a chance to get their very own Cookie Book of the Year before the holidays.
“This year’s cookie book is really good, and every year we try to put it together, we try to make this cookie book meant for the home baker. You know, not too many ingredients. It’s not too hard, you can try it, we have there’s everything from your simple sugar cookie to chipotle cookies to chipotle cookies; you know there’s something for everyone,” Jahns said.
While collecting a cookie book every year is a tradition for some, we can also download the We Energies cookie book online. The editions of this book date back to 1932.
Cookie books will be available for pickup at We Energies at 201 1st Street in Racine on November 1 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Books will be distributed through field events.
